Over the weekend, Mister and I went to see a workshop of a one-woman show by comic Felicia Michaels. “I Know Why the Caged Bird Tells a P**** Joke” is a memoir of a fascinating and amazing life. Felicia was brilliant in her delivery and blew the audience away with her personal, funny, poignant and heartfelt stories. She’s a true talent and a dreamy soul. And knowing her has helped make me a better person.

After the show, I met another comic named – get this – Susanna Brisk. That’s right – I met another Brisk! She told me the origins of her surname and how we must surely be related. I had to break it to her that Mister’s parents made up their surname when Mister was a kid, and that no – we are not related. I think she was genuinely bummed out. We all want connections, don’t we?

A lot of the crowd headed to a late-night restaurant for drinks and snacks before finally bidding adieu to one another. As we drove home from Hollywood, in the wee hours of the morning, Mister and I talked about how tremendous Felicia Michaels had been. And about how lucky we are to know so many creative, darling people. And when we finally crawled into bed, tired and spent, we blamed Felicia Michaels for keeping us up so late. And it was good.
