Some souls leave too soon.

We can search and search, but we’ll never find answers. Because there are none. There isn’t a single good reason bright lights – in the prime of youth – are taken from this earthly plane. From us.

I know, I know. We try to justify loss. We tell ourselves our loved ones are in a better place. We tell ourselves that our loss is another’s gain. We tell ourselves a lot of things.

But even if all those things are true, I don’t know a single person who wouldn’t give everything for just one more day with their departed loved ones. One more cup of coffee. One more shared laugh. One more sunset.

In the end, we never really get over losing our nearest and dearest. Instead, we learn to co-exist with the void. At least, we try. Lord knows, we try.

Today I celebrate the birthday of one bright light, gone too soon. Wherever she is, I can only imagine the singing, the storytelling, the spectacular laughter. For she always was, and will always be, a magnificent blaze of glory.
