It’s Columbus Day here in America. For some, it’s a holiday. But not for everyone.

When I was a kid, we were taught quite a few things about Christopher Columbus and why we celebrated him with a day off school. As time passed, we learned quite a few other things about him. And then it felt wrong to celebrate. In fact, most people don’t. Celebrate, I mean.

My art teacher/mentor says he doesn’t care what a holiday is about or who lays claim to it. He’s simply all for celebrating. I get that. But today I may take a moment to learn a few things about the real discoverer of America – Leif Erikson. Truth is, on that front, I’m pretty danged ignorant. (That’s true on most fronts, y’all. Don’t judge.)

So I wish you a grand Monday. That will have to do.
