Woke up starving. Yesterday, we’d had a big BBQ lunch and then skipped dinner. Food became an imperative. So I walked a few blocks to Taco Shack and grabbed a couple of breakfast burritos. Saved my life. And held us until dinner, to boot.

We chose the line-up at Stubb’s for the evening’s entertainment. The schedule showed 11 bands. We braced ourselves and prepared for a long night. But when we arrived and took our places by the stage, we heard from security that Ting Tings had canceled. I’d seen them before, but Mister hadn’t. Oh well, no matter. The rest of the line-up was still promising and we all dove in…

Ed Sheeran…

We  had seen him the first night, but he had a longer set here and it was just as much fun to see him again. I really like this kid!

Of Monsters and Men…

This Icelandic band was interesting. One of the chicks looked like Bjork’s kid sister…

…and the rest of them looked related in some way…

Maybe Iceland has a shallow gene pool or something. Who knows? Their music was pop-ish and pleasant.

It didn’t go much deeper than that for me, but the crowd seemed to really enjoy them.

Delta Spirit…

If only these guys were more attractive and had more energy! I jest, of course, as all 5 band members were adorable and running on all cylinders. Seriously, they must have taken their vitamins. I mean, once you’ve trashed the stage and your equipment during the second song, where else is there to go? I admit, there was something that made me think I wouldn’t like them. But they won me over, folks. Maybe it was the bassist who reminded me of Donald Sutherland’s character, “Oddball,” in Kelly’s Heroes. Maybe it was the lead singer’s Texas drawl (even though the band is out of Long Beach, CA). Whatever the reason, I’ll check out their recordings and hope there’s a little more polish there. But I will check them out. For the record, they were the only band of the night to have a full entourage at the side of the stage. They were also the only band to have a “girl with a dragon tattoo” on-hand…

fun. …

This band has the number one song in America right now and expectations were high for their performance. (The video of the song is awesome!) When you really, really, really like a band, you’re praying they’ll deliver live. Prayers were answered. This band’s songs ruled and I can hardly wait to get their CD. They were my favorite of the night!

The Drums…

This band had it rough. First of all, they had a giant banner. And when you throw your name up there on such a grand scale, people tend to expect you to play on a grand scale. Secondly, they followed fun. and that can’t have been easy. Turns out, it wasn’t. A lot of the crowd hit the bricks and I can’t say I blamed them. When these guys took the stage, the energy went way down. Their songs weren’t cutting it for me and I found my mind drifting. That’s never a good sign. So I told Mister I’d meet him out front when he was done with the set. I didn’t have to meet him, though, as he followed me out of the joint as I made my exit at the end of the next song.

So what was supposed to be an 11-band night ended up being only 5 acts. Still, we were sated and we wandered back to the hotel. I was still riding the fun. wave and I’m super-happy to have seen them. I can’t believe tomorrow’s the last day. Wow…
