You know how parsley is said to be a palate cleanser between courses of a meal? And yet no one (and I do mean no one) ever eats the parsley on their plates? I think parsley is extremely underrated.

 

Often in life, we need a little proverbial parsley – something to clear our heads (or hearts) before moving on to whatever’s next. When I paint, I definitely turn to parsley paintings from time to time. That’s how I came to work on a series I call “Watertown Paintings.”

 

“Blue Watertown” was wedged between two very detailed works and I needed a break. This little canvas provided that and more. There’s something soothing about it, even though I think there may be something ominous in those clouds. And in that moon. If I believed in vampires, well, let’s just say I’d expect some blood to be spilled on a night like the one depicted.

 

I’m bound to return to the Watertown well, as I really do love the idea. And I get to look at this one each and every day. Maybe the contrast of the soothing emotions and the ominous doubt is where I’m at in life right now. Maybe not. Either way, “Blue Watertown” calls me. In an eerie, familiar voice.
