This photo perfectly captures the vibe of the passengers on the plane to Austin, TX. SXSW, baby! Our oversold flight was filled with the hippest, quirkiest, musician-types imaginable. And while Mister and I definitely brought the cool factor average down a few notches, we did appreciate being part of the crowd.

For once, we got into town at a reasonable hour (it’s usually around midnight when our plane lands). We were able to have dinner with our dear friend Richard, who also happened to be here for SXSW Interactive. I made a joke about being ready to “get my drink on” before we’d even met at the restaurant. I hate when my ESP kicks in like that.

Here’s what I can tell you about the evening: it was fun to see Richard. The food was good. The cocktails were good. The cocktails were strong. And that’s it. I know I had 3 – count em – 3 cocktails. I know I was with Mister and Richard. I know nothing else.

I do not remember walking back to the hotel. I do not remember getting stuck in the hotel’s revolving door.  I do not remember telling Mister we should hit the hotel bar for a final round. I do not remember Mister telling me we should absolutely avoid said final round. I do not remember making it upstairs to our room. I do not remember getting into my pajamas, washing my face or falling into bed. It’s all a blank.

When I woke this morning, I realized my body was in the exact same place and position as when I got into bed last night. I hadn’t so much as turned over in my sleep. But I felt pretty good. And that was a blessing. Until the morning gave way to the uglies. But that’s my next post…

For now, I’d like to try and learn that 3 may be a magic number, but not when it comes to drinking. Yes, I’m a lightweight. But I think my body may be changing, too, and I just can’t hold my liquor. I’ve asked Mister to remind me, if the need arises, of just how stupid I felt this morning. He said he would, and I believe him. I’m not worried about this week though. Heaven help me, I already peaked too soon.
