Mister and I were a bit busy this past week, and then there were the danged Oscars to boot. Because we love the Oscars (me a bit more than he), we decided to try a creative endeavor with an Oscar tie-in: write a song for one of the best picture nominees.
Mister and I saw all 9 best pic nominees, so we knew we’d be able to really think about the movie while writing. But which film to choose? I got a movie in my head and Mister did the same. We then shared our choices and wouldn’t you know it – we’d chosen the same film: “Her.”
If you’ve not seen “Her,” I can only tell you it’s a Spike Jonze film. In other words, it’s a bit, um, different. In all the best ways! There’s a lot to think about with this one, and Mister and I truly enjoyed it. Maybe its different quality is what led us both to choose it as a starting point for a song. Maybe not. But it is where we went and it was pretty groovy.
When life is speeding up, it’s difficult to squeeze in these weekly creative commitments. So far, so good. I’m really hoping we keep at it, as it’s a lot of fun. It’s challenging, too, but that doesn’t take away from the fun aspect. And nothing beats creativity, so there.
