Woo-hoo!

“Always do what’s next.

George Carlin

(1937-2008)

I had hoped to send this to you on January 1st. I had also hoped to finish War and Peace before December, but that didn’t happen either. (I’m on page 1147.) To-Do Lists are funny things. You can check off all you like, but Life will To-Do circles around you, no matter what. Ah, Life. You’re a crafty minx!

Anyway, I’m happy to be telling you now that… My new CD is available! I’m re-launching my website! I’m (finally) starting a blog! I’ll be posting songs! I’ll be posting art! I’ll be posting recipes! I’m a little too excited!

After much contemplation, I’ve decided to embrace the artist in me. That girl does a lot of interesting things, and she rarely shares any of it. She paints. She composes. She cooks. She writes. And I don’t give her enough respect sometimes. So to honor her, I’d like to live this year artfully. And I’d like to live artfully out-loud.

Many of you have suggested I start a blog. For the most part, you’ve been rather subtle in your encouragement. But one person – let’s call her Mare (’cause that’s her name) – really flattened the nail when she called, skipped greetings and went right to “When are you gonna start a blog already?” Thank you, Mare.

A few of you who’ve seen my paintings have asked why I don’t show them. Well, the short answer is – aside from “where the heck would I show them anyway” – they’re mine. And please know this: just because I paint doesn’t make me a painter. I know real painters and their work kicks serious Boo-Tay. Still, for me, I do alright.

I’m a mean cook. Actually, I’m a super-nice cook. I just happen to be good in the kitchen. I not only seek killer recipes, I also make up my own from time to time. Some of you have asked for recipes and I’ve obliged. Happy to. And there’s nothing more enjoyable than breaking bread with friends. We should all do that more often.

And then there’s music. Ah! Sweet, sweet music. Do you know how many songs I’ve written? A lot. And only about 5 percent of them have been heard. I’m not bragging. I’m just saying there’s a lot of music in my house that never leaves my house. And if a song falls in the forest and there’s no one there to dance to it, will a tree sprout next year? I don’t think so.

So I’ve decided to live big time. I’ll share my various creative endeavors, as well as moments from my life. I’ll take what I’ve been doing in these monthly missives and expand upon the format. If I’m going to embrace my inner artist, I want to openly embrace her. She’s been in the cellar far too long.

Am I scared? Absolutely. I’ve resisted this path for quite a while. But you know what? Life is short. If I’m creating art (in any form), it should be available outside my living room. That goes for your art, too, by the way.

So here’s the deal, friends: I will still send out a post on the first of each month. That won’t change. If you want more content, you’ll have to log on and see what’s new each day. It’s up to you. And to kick things off, here’s a link to a free single from my new CD: http://www.mikkibrisk.com/music/ If you’re so inclined, super-please forward the link to others. I want this music to be heard, and for that, I’m happy to offer the free downloads. For the record, I plan to post one free single each month. Yippee!

Welcome to my Life of Art. May we all live out loud.

Best—

Mikki
