The other night I went to a house concert and it was amazing.

Let me clarify. Wolf Prize were amazing. There was nothing wrong with the 2 acts preceding the headliner. They just weren’t my thing. Um-kay?

If you’ve never attended a house concert, you should. Generally, someone opens their home to a performer or band and they set up somewhere and have at it. I’ve been to house concerts that were organized to such an extent as to render the home unrecognizable. As in all the furniture had been removed and rows of chairs set up instead. I’ve also been to house concerts where absolutely nothing had been moved and attendees had to navigate cramped living rooms. Sometimes the performers are plugged in and sometimes not. Depends on the hosts really. Smaller rooms can usually accommodate acoustic performances. Larger spaces can handle amps. House concerts are fun to play, as the setting is intimate. (It is usually someone’s living room, after all.) Attending house concerts is fun for the same reason. And you get to interact with the performers. If you’re interested in finding a house concert near you, or in hosting a house concert, check out this website. Much info to be had there, friends.

Anyhoo, I admit to being incredibly biased, as I know the gals in Wolf Prize. But that bias does nothing to diminish their talent. Their songs are ethereal and electric. Tori Rogg’s vocals are gripping and seductive. I love this band. And I can’t wait to see them again.
