On Saturday, I participated in something called “The Color Run.” It takes place around the country and it’s not too late for you to sign up (depending on where you live).
This is how I looked when my morning began…

I was not clean, y’all. This is how it went down…
I hooked up with my compadres and we caravanned to Dodger Stadium. It was a warm day – around 70 degrees – and we were all (mostly) wearing white t-shirts. We were told to wear white shirts, so that the effects of the color run would be maximized.
I chose to walk the race, as I’m not a runner. It was only a 5K, so I wasn’t worried. The dust from the color, on the other hand, that worried me a bit.
My friends and I walked the route laid out around Dodger Stadium, and after each kilometer, we entered a “Color Zone.”
Volunteers were tossing the non-toxic, colored powder and boy howdy! Did they toss it good! While in the middle of a Color Zone, one couldn’t help but wonder when it would end, as the haze was so thick and lasted for quite a while. But then it did clear, and we walked a kilometer to the next Color Zone. We continued that way until we reached the finish-line.
That finish-line arrived more quickly than I thought. I could have walked the event in flip-flops. But I’m glad I didn’t, as the color permeated my shoes and socks and left my feet looking like this…
I can’t imagine how stained my feet would be if I’d been barefoot.
When it was all said and done, we made our way back to our cars and headed out. When I got home, I gave myself a major scrubbing, removing all traces of ever having experienced The Color Run. But there are memories and photos. I’ll keep both.
