It’s not always art. Life, I mean.

I try. I do. But sometimes the toilet has to be scrubbed. Or the trash has to be taken out. Or one’s toenails have been ignored to the point of discomfort, and must be trimmed. Not one bit of that is art, friends.

So we deal. And we do what we have to, so that we can create. So that we can emote. So that we can live.

PFC Dinkins’ lighter in last night’s “Mad Men” season premiere pretty much summed it all up (replica shown above). And I’m okay with that. For reals. Because when our surroundings are clean and orderly, we can focus on the creative. When our abodes are tidy, our brains may be also.

Not every task I tackle is in my wheelhouse of fun. But you know what? I get to tackle tasks, and I get to live with the results. Lived well, life is definitely a work of art.

Here’s to a day of celebration. Working, cleaning, whatever. It’s life, y’all. And it’s pretty danged fabulous.
