The Jacarandas are blooming here in Los Angeles. I know, I know. They leave sap on cars and on sidewalks. They’re messy. They smell. But they’re also beautiful. And that smell? It’s fragrance. Their vibrant mood is all-too-short, so I’m enjoying them while I can.

To that end, I took a walk in the new neighborhood, in search of Jacarandas. I didn’t have to walk far. On my way back, I spotted several colorful Bougainvillea, showing off their passion for life.

Before I knew what hit me, I saw a multitude of fabulously sturdy Artichokes growing in a neighbor’s front yard.

A few houses down, the aroma of Night-Blooming Jasmine snuck up on me before my eyes took in the white blooms. Their beautiful perfume is one of my favorite things about summer in L.A.

My walk wasn’t very lengthy. But it was lovely. And when I finally reached my own front door, my botany tour was completed by a bounty of Monkey Paw.

And it was good.
