I was looking through old photos and found the above pic. It’s from 2003, on Kentucky Derby Day.
Yes, I’m wearing a big-ass hat. Yes, I’ve a mint julep before me. It must have been chilly, as I’m wearing layers. And apparently I was re-reading Siddhartha. Go figure.
I don’t know why I get so into the Derby, but I do. Today will be no different. I will sip mint juleps and obsess over the most stressful 2 minutes of sport. And maybe, just maybe, I’ll pull out a big-ass hat. Lord knows, it’s happened many times before.
