24 x 48, Oil on Linen, 2013

I painted “This Town” for a very specific purpose: to donate to Rock Camp For Girls Los Angeles. I wanted to contribute something they could (hopefully) auction off as part of their fundraising. Because the Go-Go’s song of the same title is about L.A., I thought the lyrics were perfect.

The painting is a mish-mash of L.A. skylines. I definitely used poetic license in putting it together, and I’m okay with that. I wanted the painted lyrics to have darkness to them, as L.A. has a darkness to it. It’s not all blue skies and palm trees, you know.

The painting is presently leaning against a wall, waiting for that next RCLA auction. It will happen eventually, and then we’ll see what happens. Fingers crossed, it will make a little pocket change for the organization I love so dearly.
