The other day I took a stroll beside a section of the L.A. River and came across the sculpture shown above. Now, I don’t love snakes. (Mister says he’s “Slytherin” all the way, so his feelings may differ.) When I spotted this large installation, it only served to remind me to keep an eye out for snakes on my walk.

For those unfamiliar with this odd term, the L.A. River is, well, not a river at all. Though in some places, it certainly looks like a river and even hosts wild life. I won’t bore you with the specs of the waterway (you can read about it here), but do want to tell you how topsy-turvy this thing is. It goes all over the place, in every direction, and sometimes it’s bone-dry and sometimes not. I wouldn’t call most of it scenic, not by a long shot. But efforts are being made to beautify and conserve the vast concrete channels, and I look forward to seeing what happens on that front. I don’t expect any great advances in the near future, mind you, as bureaucracy will surely slow everybody way the hell down. But still, the ball is moving. Or floating. Whatever.

I plan to look for more art along the L.A. River and will keep you posted. It’s just one more reason to love this crazy town.
