So this is what I’ve been working on – an abstract series. And the painting shown above is the piece that started it all. I call it “1985.”

For years now, I’ve kept a file of scribbles, scrawls and sketches – all from my youth. And in the back of my mind, I knew I’d eventually turn to one of those sketches as a basis for an abstract painting. When I finally located the file and dug out the sketch, it wasn’t nearly as fabulous as I’d remembered. But there was one little part of the page that sparked my creativity. So I built the painting around that. As I’d dated the original sketch, I chose that information as the piece’s title: 1985.

I’ve done 5 other pieces in this series – all on the same theme. Maybe I’ll share a few of them. Maybe I won’t. We’ll see.

In the meantime, I hope you like the first one. I certainly do. In fact, I plan to keep it. And not in a file, tucked in a drawer somewhere. No. I plan to hang it right out in the open. I think I’m going to enjoy living with this piece.
