After living with these 3 little paintings a while, I decided they were finished.

I’ve never seen these places in person, but then again, maybe I have. I am fortunate enough to have spent part of my life in the country. I have driven over old covered bridges. I’ve attended parties in fields. I have watched stars come alive, while lying in soft clover. I’ve slept in a tent in the middle of nowhere and found myself woken by a cow who decided to lie down on the side of said tent – right on top of my arm. I’ve hiked woods with no trails and I’ve smelled fresh rain on dirt roads. I’ve touched my hands to aged trees, trying to feel their souls. I’ve rummaged through abandoned shacks, hoping to find – something, all the while hoping harder to not find bats. I’ve played in mud and I’ve climbed trees. I’ve swum in ponds and I’ve pulled leeches from my feet. I’ve canoed rivers and I’ve jumped off cliffs. In short – I’ve enjoyed being a country girl.

I guess my history led me to paint these 3 little pieces. For though I am a city girl now, I will  never relinquish the part of me that loves the country. And when I close my eyes, I can almost hear the crickets and smell the rain coming on. Almost…
